We sadly mourn the passing of William “Neil” Baney of Butler, PA, on May 14, 2022 at UPMC after suffering a heart attack. Pre-deceased by his parents, Joan Blazer Baney and William Hedges Baney, Neil graduated from Churchill High School in 1976 and attended Juniata College.
Along with his brother, David, Neil co-owned Ad Graphic, Inc., a silk-screen printing business founded by their father in 1960, which operated from Pittsburgh’s North Side and was famous for printing Steelers, Pirates and Penguins banners.
A long-time member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA), Neil was leader of the Scum Clan of the Tuchux, where he made many lifelong friends and met his wife, Karrie.
An avid outdoorsman, Neil spent his summers in Alaska fishing, panning for gold, and guiding friends and family through the landscape. As an actor, Neil appeared in many locally filmed productions including Outsiders and American Rust, among others.
Known for his storytelling, Neil could turn any ordinary incident into a captivating roller-coaster of wit and humor. With a spirit and personality larger than life, friends and family sometimes joked that Neil was a cross between actor John Candy and Hagrid (of Harry Potter fame).
In addition to his wife, Karrie, Neil is survived by sons, William Parker (Katelynn), and John Jacob, as well as brother David (Joyce) of Apollo and sister, Joann of Shadyside, and nephews Paul (Paul), William, Joseph and niece Bethany.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Arrangements made by Perman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Animal Friends Shelter, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh PA 15237.
