Age 74, of Shaler Twp., son of the late William George and Emma Ragan Matta (Braddock, PA), passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 26th with his family by his side. He arrives in Heaven to reunite with his brother George, and sister, Lola to tell cheeky jokes with his unbelievably smooth and perfect voice.
His voice was molded in the radio business (WLOA) with his parents at Matta Broadcasting in Braddock. Bill committed to the business as a teenager and was behind the mic as a DJ and voicing ads form the age of 14 till his passing.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight in Vietnam, achieving a chiseled physique and the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
William returned to Braddock in 1971 to assume his duties running the radio station when his father passed away in 1971 and assumed sole ownership in 1975.
Perhaps his greatest achievement came in the form of his fraternal twin sons, Warren and Evan and six grandchildren whom he loved with "every molecule in his body." He honed his trademark humor on "the boys," which might, at times, come across as torture. But, hey, no harm, no foul.
Warren (Joanie) and Evan (Shannon) gave Bill six beautiful grandchildren- Coco, Sammy, Elle, Scottie, Hollis and Healy, whom he yearned to be next to constantly, and will be guiding them from Heaven for eternity.
Celebrate Williams life with his family on at a Memorial Gathering on Friday from 4-7 PM at Perman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 923 Saxonburg Blvd., Shaler Twp. The family respectfully suggests donations be made to The Salvation Army, 700 North Bell Avenue, PO Box 742, Carnegie, PA 15106.
