Age 81, of Gibsonia, formerly of Allison Park, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023. Born November 6, 1942, Robert was the son of the late William Noble Norberg and Mary Elizabeth (Finney) Norberg. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie (Ausherman) Norberg, his children, Sharon (Norberg) Boyle (Sean), William Norberg (Bree), and his three grandchildren Wesley Boyle, Evan Boyle and Cadyn Norberg. He is also survived by his brother Timothy C. Norberg (late Virginia), his brother-in-law J. Alan Ausherman, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia (Norberg) Tyson (Bernard).
Robert attended Westinghouse Memorial High School, and following graduation he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Robert graduated with a bachelor's degree in teaching in 1964, and a masters degree in History from IUP in 1968. He began his teaching career in the Norwin School District in 1964, and after a short stint at Norwin, Robert spent 34 years teaching at Robert Morris University and was Associate Professor Emeritus of Social Sciences. His love of teaching and passion for history were apparent to his many students. He was an expert on the Civil War and a school news article about his class said that when “Mr. Norberg taught the Civil War, you would swear you could smell the gun smoke in the air.” During his tenure at RMU, Robert was Chairman of the Social Science and Economics Department, and also served as the NCAA representative. While in his NCAA role, RMU basketball made the NCAA tournament in 1982, 1983, 1989, 1990 and 1992. Robert retired from Robert Morris in 2002. Following the death of his father in 1959, Robert was truly the patriarch and rock of the Norberg family. His generosity and love were felt by all who knew him and his stories and jokes were legendary. Robert was a life-long Steeler Fan and long-time season ticket holder, and loved watching his children and grandchildren performing and playing sports. He loved spending time with his family at holidays and on beach trips, playing golf with friends and reading.
