Matilda "Tillie" A. LaButis Syska, age 99, of Ross Township,a disabled
World War II Veteran, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2022 with family
by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman (Raymond)
Syska, the love of her life. She was the daughter of the late Joseph
and Martha LaButis. She was also preceded in death by all her siblings:
Louis Siminatis, Anna Mislevy, Agnes Dobrowolski, Joseph LaButis Jr,
Raymond LaButis, Frank LaButis, Martha Kuzma, and Ellen Black. She
cherished and sorely missed each of them so, so much. She is survived
by her two sons, Anthony T. Syska, and Brian J.(Jeanine Kaib) Syska and
two grandsons, Brian and Jared. She is also survived by many nieces and
nephews that she absolutely adored. Miss LaButis worked for the Department
of Defense during WW2 before enlisting in the Navy; it was her reaction
to Pearl Harbor Day. She was a fighter and fought to the end. She NEVER
left the military. Being one of the last remaining of the "Great Generation",
she fought the Great Depression, WW2, a spinal cord injury, blindness,
deafness, many bouts of skin cancer, dementia, immobility, and numerous
other disabilities. We would like to thank the ENTIRE John J. Heinz
VA Community Care Center for their exemplary care of our mother in her
last remaining year and the Jones Day Law Firm for ensuring her benefits.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date. Arrangements made by Perman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.
