Leonard Anthony Bittner of Mars, PA, formerly of Glenshaw, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 10, 2016, following a valiant struggle against complications from a fall. He was a kind and generous man, loved for his empathy, his good nature, and his delight in a kind-hearted practical joke.
Leonard is survived by Rosemarie, his devoted wife of 62 years, their son Steven (Joni) of Williamsport, MD, daughter Karen Childers (Steven) of Santa Fe, NM, brothers Dr. Arthur (Mary) and Victor, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Carolina of Glenshaw, sister Mary, and brothers Edward, Clarence, Henry, Sylvan, and Aloysius.
Born in Glenshaw in 1930, Leonard graduated from North Catholic High School and went on to proudly serve his country with the U.S. Army Security Agency. A man of many talents, Leonard founded two diverse businesses with his brothers before becoming a residential building contractor. For many decades, Leonard took great pleasure in his hobby farm in Saegertown, the site of happy family outings and cherished hunting weekends. Whether playing golf or poker, travelling with family, attending social events, or cheering Pittsburghs sports teams, Leonard took great joy in all that life offered.
Celebrate Leonards life with the family on Wednesday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and Thursday 6-8 PM at Perman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 923 Saxonburg Blvd. at Rte. 8, Shaler Twp. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Glenshaw.
