John Mountz, 76, of West Deer Township, peacefully left this earth on December 13, 2016. John was married to Georgia (McGinness) Mountz for 43 years. Born in Columbia, PA, John was the son of the late Sara (Datesman) Mountz and John G. Mountz.
John attended Lehigh University and worked as a Construction Project Manager for more than 30 years. John was a good man, with a quick, but subtle, sense of humor. He was always there to support his family. He was an excellent cook, and loved reading and playing pinochle. He enjoyed both playing and watching sports, following local high school teams as well as the Pittsburgh professional teams. John also was an avid cyclist. In 2006, John fulfilled a long-time dream of biking the Great Allegheny Passage Trail and C&O Canal Trail from McKeesport, PA to Georgetown (Washington, DC).
In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Mountz, wife of Matthew Webb, of Ashburn, VA; brother David Mountz, husband of Deborah, of Columbia, PA; mother-in-law Dorothy (Klair) McGinness, of Columbia, PA; and nieces and nephews. The family is planning to construct a memorial bench in Johns memory along the Great Allegheny Passage Trail; if you would like to contribute towards this bench in Johns memory, a donation may be made to the Allegheny Trail Alliance, P.O. Box 501, Latrobe, PA 15650.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
