Always the life of the party and friend to everyone, after a long and often miraculous fight with cancer, James William "Pork" Burke was called to heaven on Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Eileen (Hackimer); father of Colleen Vrbanic (Michael) of Shaler Twp., Melanie Burke Pohl (Curtis) of Ross Twp. and Michele Burke Mooney (William) of Columbus OH; brother of John Burke (Barb) and Mary Ann; brother-in-law of Patricia Masterino, Anthony, James, Cynthia and Molly Hackimer; beloved Pap-Pap to Katherine, Michael, Braedan, Garret, Evan, James-David, Burke and Bridget. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Olive (Ferron) Burke. He was a Vietnam Era U.S. Air Force veteran from '61-'65, past Grand Worthy Sir Knight of the Knights of Equity Court 9; member of AOH Division 4; and a 45 year member of American Legion Post 565. Pork was a driver for Teamsters Local 249 for 32 years.
Celebrate Mr. Burke's life with his family on Monday and Tuesday from 2-8 PM at Perman Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 923 Saxonburg Blvd. at Rt 8, Shaler Twp. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 10 AM at Incarnation of the Lord Parish, 4071 Franklin Rd, Pittsburgh PA 15214 celebrated by Father David Dewitt followed by a party pre-planned by Pork himself where stories will be shared, Oldies tunes played and Tullamore Dew poured.
