Age 72, of Hampton Twp., on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Jim was the beloved husband of Ruth Meyer Kiefer; father of Jessica Kiefer (Oliver), Julia Kiefer Bryant (Gerris); son of the late Alfred T. and Mildred Kiefer; brother of Alfred T. “Tom” Kiefer Jr., and the late Joseph C. Kiefer; grandfather of Skylar Bryant.
Jim was born in and lived most of his life in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1969 and attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor’s degree in history. He met the love his life, Ruth, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1969, and they were married in June of 1971. Jim spent most of his career working as a retail manager for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, working at many stores in the Pittsburgh area. He retired from the PLCB in 2007. He was a loving father to his girls, Jessica and Julia, and loved their husbands, Oliver and Gerris, as his own. Above all, he was thrilled to become a grandfather to his sweet granddaughter, Skylar, and marveled at the ability to Facetime with her multiple times a week. He was devoted to his family and friends and could always be counted on to help care for and support others.
Jim will be fondly remembered for his big smile, his laugh, and his welcoming presence to all. He wanted to make the best food for you, share the best beer, and above all, make sure that you were having a good time. Jim loved music and was a patron of the Manchester Craftsman Guild for over 20 years. He attended numerous concerts and music festivals regularly, and his favorite genres were Jazz, Blues, and Rock. Jim was an excellent cook. Family and friends were often treated to his outstanding meals. He was known to grill in all weather conditions, all year long. He was an active member of Nativity Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council for numerous years, and he was very involved in Social Ministry. His favorite project was supporting the North Hills Community Outreach where he volunteered for many years. Jim loved gathering with friends at local breweries to catch up over a quality beer, and he was a huge sports fan of all Pittsburgh teams (through good seasons and not so good seasons).
Celebrate Jim’s life with his family on Tuesday December 5th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at PERMAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., Shaler Twp. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 9th at 11 AM at Nativity Lutheran Church, Allison Park. The family respectfully suggests donations be made to Nativity Lutheran Church 4517 Mt.
