Age 87, of O’Hara Twp., on Monday, February 10, 2025, Dr. Kunz was the beloved husband of Nancy Israel Kunz; brother of Margrit Zimmermann-Kunz (late Walter), and the late Hilda, Olga, Willie, and Max; also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Dr. Kunz emigrated from Zurich, Switzerland in 1961 to Boston, ultimately settling in Pittsburgh in 1971. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1978 and became an esteemed Professor of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1990. Upon his retirement in 2001, Dr. Kunz was named Professor Emeritus of Pathology. He was a member and Past President of the Swiss American Society of Pittsburgh. Dr. Kunz chaired the Swiss Room Committee of the University of Pittsburgh Nationality Rooms during the fundraising and construction of the Swiss Room, which was dedicated in 2012. He was also the Vice Chair of the Nationality Council of the Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs (NRIEP). Dr. Kunz was named the honorary Consul of Switzerland for Western Pennsylvania by the Swiss Federal Council and served for 18 years.
Services and Interment were Private.
